Seems like the new DELL laptop I have is not suitable really for LinuxCNC direct control of anything.
The machine is www.passmark.com/baselines/V8/display.php?id=33769614184
www.dell.com/us/p/inspiron-11-3147-laptop/pd
A 11.6'' netbook class ultraportable. Intel Pentium N3530 CPU which can boost up to ~2.7 GHz, integrated GPU, 4 GB of RAM and very slow HDD. No parallel port just 3 USB ports. Running LinuxCNC live from 2GB USB stick.
The 1ms thread latency is ~280 500 ns and 25 microsecond thread ~296 050 ns.
Is there somewhere a full list of latency tests available? I am thinking of assembling my first CNC gadget (for a start just a very simple stuff to learn how it works with 3 stepper motors and cheap off the shelf parts) and was planning to drive the steppers directly from a PC with the DB25 breakout board and H-Bridges (yeah that laptop does not have DB25 port either) with the help of LinuxCNC.
