Is it possible to compile linux kernel with RTAI for x86_64 platform? I think kernel with RTAI patches will be much more time responsive than Preempt-RT.

They are easy to build

It seems to be: www.rtai.org/
Have fun
Be prepared to be trying just one more compiler switch at 2am.

Strange. I compiled kernel 4.1.18 with rtai-5.0-test2 patches and I'm getting really high latencies 17000000ns. Something wrong.

Seems too obvious to mention, but are you actually running the new kernel?
There are a number of kernel config options to set to get RTAI to work as well as the patches. Did you do that?

Unfortunately I didn't managed to tune kernel with RTAI patches to achieve minimum latency. The results was horrible. So I sticket to preempt rt kernel images which I've found at linuxcnc.org.
So my max BASE_PERIOD is 43050ns, not so bad for my needs.

Just want to share my impression regarding to hardware usage. So I bought Gygabite H81M micro ITX motherboard with an LPT port. CPU is Intel Pentium G3260.
This board has few bugs.
Sometimes it doesn't shutdown/suspend (just hanging).
I found prolem with usage of 5 meters long HDMI cables. My monitor doesn't detect signal. With short HDMI cables all works, but >= 5 meters is a problem.
