If you are just looking to upgrade linuxcnc via internet you can easily do that by tethering a cell phone. I have done that a few times. It was just plug and play.

I would advise Alfa AWUSO36NH, which is a powerful solution with a driver for Linux. I personally use Edimax as Pathpilot does, as someone recommended me here. But the Edimax nano USB stick mounts the Realtek RTL8188CUS, RTL8192CU chipsets and you need to patch the driver to make it work with linux. Otherwise, the connection is intermittently; the problem also may afflicts the following sticks:
- ASUSTek USB-N13 **rev. B1** (0b05:17ab)
- Belkin N300
- Edimax EW-7811Un (7392:7811)
- TP-Link TL-WN822N (0bda:8178)
- TP-Link TL-WN823N
- TRENDnet TEW-648UBM N150

One common recommendation is the TP-Link N150. However, the chipset has changed and now it does _not_ seem to work with Linux. Certainly not with the LinuxCNC ISO.

So that is one to avoid (which might be more useful than a recommendation)
