Hi
Just want to mention the atom based up board which appears to be available (after the kickstarter campaign) now:
up-shop.org/4-up-boards
most interestingly it a has a 40pin GPIO.
www.up-board.org/en/kickstarter/up-board...professional-makers/
if have no idea about the latency of the GPIO, but if low it would be great HW LinuxCNC.....?
PS: I'm not am affiliate to up etc....

There are quite a few SBCs around now. Not all of them will survive infancy of course.
Here's another one ( Latte Panda ) that may be even better specc'd, although space isn't usually an issue in this context. I don't know if anyone has ported Linux to (m)any of these SBCs yet.
Getting usable I/O may be an issue

Thx yes a fine board too but..
as novice it appears to me, that the only low cost solution is the "classical one" over the parallel port. In mid-term some good hackers could investigate some of those SOC suitable for the Linuxcnc project ?
This is beyond my knowledge and would make life easier for a newbie like me.
