I would like to try using my monitor in portrait mode so I can see a bigger chunk of gcode beneath the live plot in axis.
But the option to change the rotation is missing from my monitor settings, only "normal" is available. (mirrored is missing too)
I have a gigabyte h81-D3 motherboard with integrated intel graphics and the machine runs well.
How can I get the graphics to allow rotation?

You could try keybindings or I believe xrandr will do the trick for xubuntu 12.04
