MODBUS - How to learn was created by fc60
Greetings,

I have read the term "MODBUS" quite often in various posts.

My VFD and controller for my heat treat oven both have MODBUS jacks.

Is there a class or self teaching book available?

I suspect I will need to invest in a MODBUS adapter card for my laptop?

With kind regards,

David

There are USB to RS485 dongles on eBay for a couple of dollars. Those work fine for Modbus.

Greetings Andy,

Thanks for the dongle suggestion.

Next, are there good books available for the electronically challenged?

Cheers,

David

I have not used them but I think you can get cheap logic analyzers that come complete with a modbus emulation in PC software so you can watch the actual electronic signals and how they are decoded in a Modbus world.

Maybe either the Wikipedia page, or publications linked from there?
