This is much shorter and you can also choose between master and 2.8.
There is also a ready made ISO with everything included and ready to run 2.8.

Interesting that we both had freeze problems under Debian but not under mint. A shame, as I prefer the debian interface, and it seems to have less overhead.

You can use Mint with XFCE, it is quite a bit lighter on resources.
