Help choosing LinuxCNC PC was created by renatofmpinheiro
Hi,
I need some help to choose the best PC to use with the linuxCNC and this kit: www.ebay.de/itm/-Best-Offer-Free-4Axis-N...-Wantai/183265631829
I see some posts mencioning the j1800, j1900 and j4005 but don't find any latency test results for that boards.
In your opinion what PC I should buy. Don't need to be an mini itx board, can be any size or an ready desktop.
Best regards,
Renato Pinheiro

Unfortunately it is hard to say unless someone else has the exact same PC.
But most things work OK, it is just that some are better.
Don't get too hung-up on the latency numbers.

Had 5 of those, they do work nicely with RTAI and they do work quite good with Preempt-RT with something like 70000 to 80000 latency, with Debian Stretch. What do you think about this one: www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Cheap-Dell-Optiplex-3...Options/362797914851

I was lucky enough to find an "iei kino DH610 R10" with cpu i5 and 2 gb ram at € 100 and I must say that it goes perfectly. I have 2 ssd with wheezy and stretch goes well with both in closed loop at 8 khz.
latency wheezy rtai = less than 20000 never latency errors
latency stretch rt-preempt = about 30000 some case of error always at 8 khz however never fails.
It is an industrial card that costs a lot but is excellent.
regards
Mauro
