I got a question regarding this section in
FAQ - Some Latency Solutions
:
Maybe I got it all wrong, but shouldn't that read "all bar the >lowest< number processor core are isolated" if for a 4 core cpu isocpus is set at "isolcpus=1,2,3"?

Instead of running a CPU Hog, a far more elegant solution can be to use isolcpus
wiki.linuxcnc.org/cgi-bin/wiki.pl?The_Is..._Parameter_And_GRUB2
Here by use of a kernel parameter at boot time, all bar the >highest< number processor core are isolated from use and you are back to a single processor dominated by the real time processes again.

Lowest cpu is 0, that remains in use, the others are isolated and not used.
That has the downside of bringing the PC to a single processor so everything will be sluggish, and in recent PC's has low or no real benefit in latency.
