Dell Optiplex 9020 micro anyone use them

I was looking on Ebay for a compact computer for my Dad as a small multi media T.V. setup
and I came across a few Optiplex 9020M's. So naturally I started wondering would these make a good
LinuxCNC computer? I know they don't have an optical drive but that really isn't a problem .
Has anyone had experience with these machines and if so how well did it work ?

Had one of those in the SFF form a few years back, it is still running a 2.5X1.5m router with Mesa 7i76E. Never had well anything, it just works.

Well I just got one off of Ebay I can't wait to test it. We will see if the 7010 SFF becomes the lathe computer or the 9020M.
I am hoping the 9020M works out because it will then reside behind the monitor.

The 9020micro just arrived . Preliminary tests after loading linux mint19.3 with linuxcnc are promising. I loaded 5 GLX gears ran a
few Youtube video's and got a max jitter of
15070 ns on the servo thread and
53590 ns on the base thread.
This weekend I will have time to do the scripted test and see how it really does.
Some specs for the 9020micro.
mine has a 1TB crucial MX500 SSD an intel i5 4590T and 8gb ram

initial script test results are in . A few tweeks will be needed . The cooling fan is one of them. as in it just needs to stay on. LOL

so far very promising. I will do some more testing though to to see what It can do. :)

Just posted about that in the other topic, had two of them, the SFF version, very good and still in use with LinuxCNC and Mesa 7i76E. Been over 2 years. Did you get the one with the ADATA 256GB SSD? Damn that thing was fast, read and write in the 560MB/s ! Not fast for today's NVME though.

no mine came with a Samsung PM871 256 gig SSD. It has windows 10 PRO loaded on it . As soon as I had recived the computer I had a brand new crucial MX500 1000GB SSD ready to go in.

test number 2 . Part of the way through the test I put a case fan in front of the case vents . It definitely made a difference.

unfortunately I couldn't find any setting in the BIOS to change the fan speed ( LAME ). So external fan it is . LOL.

#2 test results we bewildering with my new settings it actually did slightly worse.

Yes, not much has changed !
I never bother disabling anything on PC's with such good latency, they do not have parallel ports so why bother.
The latency is very good as such, wire in the Mesa and move something ! :)
BTW, fan speed on such PC is in hardware or power sections sometimes labelled as noise something or another, or quiet/normal/performance.
