IR touch screen frame vs normal touch screen? was created by Aaroncnc
So i have been looking a good solution for a touch interface for my mill.
I am also on the hunt for a economical solution.
my requirements are somewhat high.
i need it to be 1080p res
i prefer it to be over 22"
When i have looked up touch screen monitors in that fit the bill they seem to be about 300$
with the exception of this monitor at 170$ www.newegg.com/p/2NY-0053-00025
The next option is a IR touch frame about 100$ after shipping (I have many old 23in monitors.)
www.aliexpress.com/item/1005001514698612...00016420729112%22%7D
I have been trying to find a used touch screen but nothing yet.
So has any one tried one of these frames?
I have seen them used when people make those smart mirrors out of normal TVs but thats about it.

I suggest keeping a watch on eBay. I recently bought "iiyama ProLite T2235MSC 22" Full HD Touchscreen Monitor Display with Speakers" for £180.
It was as-new in an opened box, still with the stickers attached.

well i finaly found my unicorns.
I picked up two viewsonic td2220 monitors for 80$ total.
The only catch was the touch input did not work.
at worst i got 2 1080p monitors for my home or at best if i could fix them a amazing deal.
well after messing about i was able to fix them.
The purple strip around the edges had become damaged via cleaning chemicals.
After some reading about the tech i found that the IR pass filter layer is not needed but for visual aperance mostly and to protect reflective element below.
So i peeled 1in of the strip off then cut the end off by about 2mm to see the 2 layers used a razor blade to create a gap and peeled them apart.
Then i stuck back down the 1 in i peeled up with a bit of glue.
see picture to see the now silver border and on the screen is to top IR pass layer. its kinda purple.
