QTplasmaC upgrade now huge latency was created by JTknives
I just upgraded from a 2019 version of PlasmaC to the current QTplasmaC on a new SSD. I now am having massive issues with latency/jitter. I’m running a BRIX mini pc that’s sporting a J1900. In the past it was fine but now it wont even run. I went into the bios and disabled everything like I did in the past and disabled Wifi. I think befor my max jitter was like 20k but now the max jitter is Max Jitter (ns) 129316 / 106580
Am I just out of options with this older mini pc? Is it time to look for a more powerful cpu mini PC?
thanks for all your help.

The old Linuxcnc version would have been based on running a 32-bit version of Debian 7 (Wheezy) and depending on your hardware likely running the RTAI real time patched kernel. This worked well with many slower CPUs.
The latest versions of Linuxcnc's ISOs are based on 64-bit Debian 12 (Bookworm) and comes with a Preempt RT patched real time kernel. This system generally does not give good latency with slower CPUs. You may need to try to install an RTAI version. (I have not tried to get a current release of Linuxcnc running with RTAI so I can't be of much help there other than to point you to the documentation.)

I still use a Gigbyte Brix J1900 and its fine if you follow my Bookworm guide.

You will have a Realtek NIC so be sure to install the dkms driver as I describe.

I was looking at upgrading my J1900 brix to a brix with an i7-5775 and 16gr of ram. Is this a fool’s errand or will this help future proof my system?
ps I snagged a BRIX with a i7-5775 for a killer deal so it’s on its way.

Also some of the MSI pc's the same form factor as the Brix look interesting. I have one on a packing bench but it runs Windows (becasue it is not on my desk!)

Probably a bit overkill unless you have it. my 20 core i7 does not like PREEMPT_RT and hangs but its just a desktop machine so its running normal Debian. 4 cores 8gb should be enough. I had a 4 core i5 which was nice except for the Realtek NICs which are fixed with the dkms driver I mention.I was looking at upgrading my J1900 brix to a brix with an i7-5775 and 16gr of ram. I ended up buying it because it was $103 and had a SSD as well.

That is OK for a Mesa card and about where mine ran for years. I'll try and remember to look at my brix tonight.
Did you do the cpu affinity?

Not OK, notice the red/blue vertical lines on both sides of the histogram, those are excursions outside the visible area that do not show unless explicitly requested, so
latency-histogram --nobase --sbinsize 1000 --show
will show those excursions.
Although it just might be usable for Mesa, but i would not risk it.
