[SOLVED] keyboard lag was created by Pentax
So.......my machine is great. however, i seem to be having a problem with the computer.
after i turn the computer on, it takes about 2 minutes before the keyboard works. x loads fine, and emc runs with all its hal buttons, but i can't use the keyboard until after a wait of a few minutes......
its a seal shield seal pup usb keyboard.
thoughts?
thanks,
A

Probably a USB/keyboard driver problem. I would assume that there is no such problem with a PS/2 keyboard?

John : yes, i have. i have a crappy ps2 keyboard i used a for a while..... it works, but the thing is ridiculous.
Andy: yeah, that crappy ps2 works, but the USB also worked without issue until i ran the EMC sh script. ??
the seal pup keyboard is used because a console assembly was machined for it, and its coolant and oil proof (and hot chip proof for that matter).
by the time the machine boots and homes, the keyboard works, but sometimes it randomly stop working for about two minutes, which really puts a dent in things...
i checked seal shields website, and nothing is there.... i also use a seal shield keyboard at home and don't have this problem...which leads me to believe a bios issue, and not a linux issue. maybe legacy usb issues?
thanks guys,
A

I assumed as much, I was just trying to narrow the problem down.
Does the keyboard take as long to start working if you don't start EMC2? ie is it a question of the keyboard/driver booting very slowly all the time with the rtapi kernel, or is it EMC2 itself which interferes with it?
I would be tempted to fiddle with USB settings in the BIOS.
