Graphics Issues with EMC2 GUI

LinuxCNC LiveCD installed ubuntu 8.04 + EMC2 to hard drive partition
2nd partition windows XP
All latest updates downloaded and installed.

PROBLEM
GUI of EMC2 ONLY
Lines appear across the screen making hard to impossible to see what is on the screen.
Once i close emc2 and move another screen/window over the monitor screen the lines disappear.
attached is a screen shot, with the best clarity. 1024x768 60Hz
