OK, but I still do not understand what the difference is between L2 and L20. However it does not matter, I use L20 and I think it does its job.No, The X must have a number after it.
For example using this command to touch off the right side of the piece.
You would type G10L2P1X0, if you wanted that point to be 0 in your G54 work coordinate system.
If you were locating off a hole 1" from where you want the edge to be you could enter G10L2P1X1.
Thanks and happy new year
Nicola.

Let's say that your machine is located at the machine coordinate position (G53) X5.32 Y3.45 Z-2.34 and the G54 system is active. Issuing G10L20P1X0Y0Z0 will make the DRO show X0 Y0 Z0 at that point. Issuing G10L2P1X0Y0Z0 will make the DRO show X5.32 Y3.45 Z-2.34 .

Interesting. I still have to understand how DRO works without encoders but this is another matter.Let's say that your machine is located at the machine coordinate position (G53) X5.32 Y3.45 Z-2.34 and the G54 system is active. Issuing G10L20P1X0Y0Z0 will make the DRO show X0 Y0 Z0 at that point. Issuing G10L2P1X0Y0Z0 will make the DRO show X5.32 Y3.45 Z-2.34 .
Many thanks and happy new year.

The DRO works pretty much the same without encoders as they do with, so long as the stepmotors don't loose position.
