Chaps,
I'm putting together a G code preamble in the CAM software for a cnc lathe. So far I have G8, G18, G21, G54, G80, and G90. I also plan to finish all programs with a M2. I'm wondering if there is any value in adding A G40 or G49 to cancel tool compensation, and a G92.1 to clear other offsets, or are these codes only relevant to a mill, not a lathe? And would it be appropriate to put in a M48 here if I wanted to use spindle/feed overrides?
Any advice would be appreciated.
Cheers, Steve.

No harm in putting them all in. Tool comp can be quite important for lathes, if you want to cur accurate spherical shapes.
G91.1 might be useful too.
