Manual tool change confusion was created by _big_
If I touch off tool 1 and then tool 2, I see the compensations in the tool table. And after touching off tool 2, TLO Z: appears to be what I expect.
If I then T1 G6, and confirm the tool change, the correct offset for tool 1 shows up at the bottom of the Axis window, but TLO Z: does not update with the offset for T1. If I utter G43 in the command window, TL0 Z: updates with tool 1 offset.
During this whole period G43 is showing the modal window.
To my way of thinking, when G43 is active, a tool change should automatically update the TLO Z:.
I could probably convince the CAM program to issues a G43 after every tool change, but that doesn't seem right to me.

I have not used Linuxcnc on a tool changing machine, but it is normal on other machine controls I've used to require reissuing the G43 command to for a new tool offset to be applied.
