G96 CSS will not cancel

Not sure if this has been covered before. If my program issues a G96 command and I later want to use G94 G1 to move to a bar feeder position the machine goes to the G0  pre position and then hangs. I have tried issuing a G97 before the G1 line and on the same line, tried G94 before the G1 and on the same line, No luck.
