hey guys,

i have a problem with my machine, i hope anyone can give me some help.

Yesterday, working on the electronics to integrate my new tool changer, i caused a short-circuit.
Now i have the problem, that my y-axis is moving in the wrong direction, also the home switch doesnt work anymore.

do you think theres something shot on the parallelport?

it is possible ,

if the axis is moving in the wrong direction then the direction pin is either not changing state because you have blown the parrell port or someting else
try disconnecting the y direction pin to your stepper drives and manualy ground or to logic high to change direction , and work back from that

home switch you could try swapping to another pin , and prove it that way ,,

you dont mention what interface your using so cannot be more specific at this stage .,
the other option is to use a pci parrell port card ( note see other posts for ones that work well )

Thanks for your help.

But is it possible to destroy several pins from the par-port?
Normally the whole controller crashes, right?

as you dont mention your interface to the parrell port it's difficult to say either way
it may just be your interface or a combination , as we do not know the circumstances

although it is possible to check the parrell port , either connect a printer and try it , if the printer works then the chances are the port is ok
just need to work through

You might want to look here...
wiki.linuxcnc.org/cgi-bin/wiki.pl?Parallel_Port_Tester

What break out board are you using on the parallel port?
Does it use opto-isolators?
