No, I am talking about how a machine with linuxcnc working, with all its settings, can simulate on its graphic screen the operation of the program without producing movement. Axis bases its GUI on a large simulation window, but can only display the simulation completed, or the simulation while a program is running. For an inexperienced operator who needs to test before executing (for example a tool radius compensation on a lathe). If the path to be generated is correct. This is very common to all controls, is this possible in LinuxCNC?

So like a machine lock button?

Gmocappy has an interesting feature where you can click the tool path and it will highlight the back plot

yesss !!! So like a machine lock button.!!!!. is this possible in LinuxCNC? .

like this for example in Halui. >

halui.mode.is-simulator
halui.program.is-simulating

and in simulator mode you can use the same program execution keys.

halui.program.run
halui.program.stop
halui.program.step
halui.program.resume

o for example in Axis

the button comand [simulator mode] and use the same program execution GUI keys.

is this possible ?????

Screw machines and fanuc has an option for manual handle retrace.

When you enter this mode the program will advance with the turn of the mpg wheel. If you turn it backwards the program will reverse. It comes in handy with 7+ axis machines where you have to program wait times for certain ops.

Quite the coding challenge I'll bet

LinuxCNC does not have this facility.

I can think of partial solutions (with a stepper motor machine, simply turn off the stepper drivers, with a servo machine you would need to short-circuit the feedback loop in HAL, which is actually fairly simple to do)

But, the real problem comes when you _exit_ simulation mode. Should the actual machine rapid to the simulated finish point (that would be the default behaviour with the HAL-only solutions I mentioned). If the machine, instead, needs to reset its current position to the start-of-simulation position, then I think that that would need code changes inside LinuxCNC.

It's interesting to note that, as far as I know, nobody has asked for this in the 10 years I have been working with LinuxCNC.

Perhaps a another way might be to configure an identical virtual machine config, then run that in a sim version Linuxcnc running in a virtual machine. That is what I usually do, but not at the cnc machine, I usually do it on the PC I do my CAM work from.
