Weird Z axis behavior? was created by bqgray
Hi,
I'm a newbie here. I've got a new setup with X, Y, and Z stepper motors.
For some reason, when I'm jogging my Z axis in Axis, it will only move .020 and then will stop until I press the button again.
When I started out, the Z axis was working fine.
What did I do. How can I get normal functionality back?
Thanks,
Bill

Does it happen going up or down or both?

Sounds like your stalling the stepper with either too high acceleration or physical binding on the axis.

I don't think that this is a hardware issue.
I have turned the jog rate down way down.
The software will move exactly .0200", and the movement in the physical machine are accurate to that number.
For some reason, the software has decided that it will only move the rig .0200" at a time.
What might cause this?
Thanks,
B

Do you have it set for Continuous in the Manual Control tab?
Does it jog 0.0200" each time you press the jog button?

John,
I do have it set for continuous on the manual control tab. Yes, it is moving .0200 each time I press the jog button.
I have solved this problem (it would seem) by starting from scratch and creating a new config file. Using step config, I have not been able to find any difference between the working file and the non-working file. I still need to run a diff on the working and non-working files.

I'm glad you solved it... and I hate when you don't know what caused a problem. Let us know if you find any differences when you do your diff on the files.
