pyvcp pin does not exist was created by Buddy002
I had a problem which no longer remember so I formatted the hard drive and reloaded software. everything worked fine until it tried to load the right side panel then I got in the debug window panel_option.hal ;5;pin pyvcp.Clamp does not exist. So I commented out that line in the file and the debug file kicked the next pin in the list. I have looked at these files for multiple days with no result. I have included Tree.hal for the Tree milling machine which calls panel_options.hal Panel_options supplies panel.xml with the pin assignments for the panel
. If nothing is wrong with one of these files I could reload the system again.

Can we have the INI file too? That is what might be landing the panel code.

Nothing immediately leaps out as being wrong.
Can I suggest that you load LinuxCNC from the command line (command "linuxcnc" and see if there is any sort of clue.
I suspect that PyVCP simply isn't loading. The terminal output might supply a clue.
Also add the command "show pin" to the top of the "panel_options.hal" file to get a list of all the pins that exist at that point to appear in the terminal output.

Another concern that I have is that I use mousepad as a text editor. I tried to install Gedit but my Syntacit program loader is pointed a website that no longer exists. I tried to change the target without success.

Probably good that it failed. I once installed Gedit on Debian and it installed all of Gnome desktop.
If you can’t get on with Mousepad try Geany. (I currently use Geany everywhere)

show pin lists all the pins present
running linuxcnc from the command line results with a launch of the main panel no rightside panel and the final line reads " no option 'recent files in section ' DEFAULT':
I suppose Panel_options.hal should be listed in the DEFAULT section.

my current plan,

I will load linuxcnc 2.6
Then I can upgrade to 2.7
According to Peter at Mesa 2.7 handles motion better.

Why would you want to load 2.6 ? Save your config folder on a usb stick. then load 2.7 on the new drive then update it to 2.7.14
use one of the wizards to make a working system then edit the hal and ini file with the contents of your config folder from the usb stick.
