I have been reading and studying on setting up a huanyang vfd hy02d223b through rs485 on linuxcnc
for the past couple weeks with no luck.
Using ubuntu 10.04 that is updated to linuxcnc 2.7.11, it has best latency.
Bought a cheap usb rs485 wired to rs- rs+ on vfd.
Changed parameters pd001=2 pd002=2 pd163-1 pd164=2 pd165=3
I have picked up a lot of info from reading posts here but they havent sunk in.
I would like for someone to take a look at my hal files and see if there are anythings that need to be
added/deleted or changed.

Have you tried validating raw spindle function with SpindleTalker2 in Windows?

Have you checked the pc comms port settings. ie (copied from unix.stackexchange.com/questions/242778/...serial-port-on-linux)
You can use the stty command to set such parameters.
This will show all settings on the first serial port (replace ttyS0 with ttyUSB0 if using an USB serial port):
stty -F /dev/ttyS0 -a
I've got a huanyang vfd on order, so am interested in how to use the rs485 comms. My pc defaults to 9600 8N1, I would set the vfd/Linux comms to match that.

Thanks for the replies.
Zombie I may need to load windows on another drive to check.
John I ran " ls /dev/tty* " and found out that my usb rs485 was ttyUSB0
I've tried just about every different sample and suggestion given to others
on the countless post I've read on this site and others with nogo.
I know really nothing about the code in the hal files but I'm trying to learn.
Over the past 3 weeks of messing with this I have about come to the
conclusion either I am unlucky or the usb rs485 adapter is bad.

64dodge, the comms settings have to match. If I run stty -F /dev/ttyS0 -a in a cmd window, the first thing I see is speed 9600 baud. This needs to be the same in the vfd, and hal files. I notice people have had problems with faulty rs485 adapters. There must be a ping/echo type test to check the comms. Your probably close to getting it talking. Keep asking, someone will know the answer.
