Powered up the power supply.
Enabled the motors and put 9v to the speed input on the drive card. Nothing. Found a 1.5v battery and tried that as well. Forward or backwards nothing happened.
Both drive and no motor movement either way.

Hooked 9v straight to servo motor with everything powered off and it runs forward and backwards like it should.

1. Enable the drives ( how this is done depends on the drives )
Nothing will move without first doing that.

Use a 1.5V battery, not 9V as that will have the motors run at full speed, and since there is not control to stop them, they will break something before you are able to remove the battery.

I could not find online your servo drive manual. But found CMC manual for brushed DC motor with tachometer input.

ttps://www.artisantg.com/info/Cleveland_Motion_Controls_SDB_Series_Manual.pdf?srsltid=AfmBOorzCltvtjGyzWiOyaa6-XFNoLaBcmwPmFUnsA8L5EootgrmcSKG I am assuming this manual is similar to yours. If it is than you need to set the four digital inputs  SBY, OSW, SW1 AND SW2,  for the motor to spin in both direction  the inputs must be set to satisfy the operational conditions of the drive (digital inputs require 24vdc power)

Good news…. So the book for the drivers benb posted isn’t like mine but close enough I kept reading it to see how those drives work. He also mentioned the digital inputs.
So I read back to make sure I didn’t misread what I read about external switches (essentially left/right drive disable).
Turns out I misinterpreted it or whatever but the books says something like this
“If no external interlocks are required wire them to signal common”.
So since I was on the bench I jumped each of them to common on the drive board.
Next section I read how the L/R disable works and it turns out the switches are switched to common to disable the drive in one direction. DOH!

Went straight to the box this am. Pulled my jumpers enabled the drive and I have motion in both directions.

And Tommy you are def correct. I listened this time and only used the 1.5v. Those drives move pretty good with that.

Anyway. Thanks again for everyone’s help. On to the tuning tutorial I suppose

You are welcomed, always.
Did you read the servo tuning and wiring on this forum? Can not recal if i did point to that, but that is a must for such retrofits.

And while you are at it, please let me know if there is something that can be explained better or anything to add or remove.
Also, no skipping steps when wiring stuff, one by one step at a time. :)
