Hi guys, new member here with probably a stupid question you had seen a lot,
I'm trying to convert an old lathe to cnc and one of my biggest issue issue is, what would be a good ac servo to control the spindle?, or should I just buy an encoder and VFD to use the current motor the lathe have.
For the rest I think I have it covered but my budget is limited.
Thanks and regards.

If you can mount an encoder to the motor or spindle, a VFD would do the job nicely, but, is it a 3 phase motor ?

Thanks for your response, and yes it is a 3 phase motor, and I think I have 110v ac motor to replace in case to need it.
One concern I have is the threading part (which the encoder would solve it) but also in case I want to adapt the mill, the encoder and VFD would be still a good approach?.
