has anyone used a MASSO Optical Encoder with a Mesa Card? was created by kbec
I have a Mesa 7i96 connected to a Sherline lathe and mill and was hoping to use a similar setup to theirs for speed control. They use a sticker with a pattern and the Masso Optical Encoder. This appeals to me since a sticker would be easy to apply, and the Masso encoder is only about $50. They have it to where they control the speed by disconnecting the speed control potentiometer and feeding it from the Masso controller. I am almost certain this can be done in LinuxCNC, but I have no idea how. The main reason I want to do this is to do threading.
Most of what I have found shows using a slotted disk, but the sherline has the decal pressed onto the spindle pulley. I'd rather not have to create and then mount a slotted disk.
Thanks

Can't see why not but a datasheet may bring more light to the matter.

The output voltage is min 10volts, so would need conversion to 5 volts for the mesa board I believe.
Other wise looks straight forward. be interesting to see how well it works, how fast it works reliably at.
