Mesa 5I25 + 7I76 + PWM was created by jblain
I am looking for a way to control, via software, the current going trough my wire in my foam cutter. So I need to interface a programmable current source.
As I see it, my options would be :
PWM controlled current : Is it possible to use one of the outputs on a 7I76 connected to a 5I25 as a PWM signal ?
Analog controlled current : Use the spindle variable voltage output as a signal to drive a current source ?
Serial controlled current : Find a rs242 controlled current source
I do not have a current source yet. Would any of you have suggestions ?
Regards

Probably easiest would be to use PWM with DC wire power
(maybe just rectified and not filtered)
and a single MOSFET to switch the wire power with the PWM
This would be a variable voltage, not current source.
The PWM could be software generated on 7I76 field outputs. or if higher resolution and higher frequency PWM was needed
a spare step/dir pin could be used for hardware PWM with a special 5I25 config
