Hi all,

I'd like to build a milling machine. so i bought the following components from Mesa

3x20 6i68 Anything io card ( 1k )
7i49 6 channel resolver interface
7i33 Quad Analog servo interface
8i20 2200W 3 Phase Amplifier
7i44 Eight Channel RS-422/485
7i37 Isolated I/O card

Which firmware should i use? Do I need to build one? How can i configure the Xilinx ISE to compile the required hm2 modules into a .bin file?

Thanks
Micha

I can make a configuration for this on Monday
Its possible to do this by downloading the hm2 source from
Mesa and compiling but since this is a new configuration
and a pinout file must be built its a fair amount of work

Thanks a lot! I try it already by myself, but i don't succeed. I've downloaded the Xilinx web pack 13.4 and the hm2 source from git.linuxcnc.org. Now i'm able to build the SV24S.bit file but nothing more...
I think i'll wait till monday :)

thanks again
Micha

That is quite a lot of hardware. I am wondering why you need the 7i49 _and_ the 7i33?
Do you have a mixture of resolver-servos and encoder-servos?

Cause I've a lot of different Servomotors and ServoAmps. I'm not sure which combination of Motor and Amp is the best one. My prefered choice would be a Rexroth Indradrive... but LinuxCNC have no SERCOS support :(

I don't know if that is necessarily true.

Big Thanks!
I'll get the 7i33 and the 7i49 this weekend... The smartSerial connection to the 8i20 is working. Is it possible to drive the motor without any encoder/resolver?

Sort of, you can run the motor in step motor mode which is wildly inefficient
and likely to overheat the motor/8I20 if done for too long. This mode is used
in some of BLDCs non- HALL rotor position sensing start-up methods
