Are there any boards out there that support Yaskawa Mechatrolink??? I would assume a driver would have to be made to communicate via LinuxCNC to Mechatrolink expansion board. Any insight would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Dan

RS485 or Ethernet?

I think that hardware is probably the easy part, though.

Hi Dan
We use Windows and LabView to control our Mechatrolink II drives from a PC. We are limited to asynchronous commands. It would be really cool if someone made a LinuxCNC driver for one of the Mechatrolink II cards.

It seems like the motion controller vendors have more support for EtherCAT. This is the logical choice of protocol if you can choose.
