For the record let me tell you that when I first tried to flash the 7i80db_25_7i76x2_7i77x2.bit I got errors
then I realized the existence of 7i80db_25_7i76x2_7i77x2D.bit (note the "D" at the end) and that one flashed ok
later guessed that the "D" probably had to do with 7i80"D"B ...

Now, to flash 7i80db_25_7i77x4.bit I thought I would need something like 7i80db_25_7i77x4D.bit, but coludn't find that file

any idea what the "D" stands for ?

The card type is indicated by the card name in the bitfile. for example filenames that start with 7i80db_25 are for 7i80db-25s and filenames that start with 7i80hd_16 are for a 7i80hd-16.

The rest of the file name indicates the configuration either by code letters for the modules contained or by specifying daughtercards. Daughtercards are specified in connector order

You can check the current configuration pinout to verify that it matches your daughtercard pinout with mesaflash:

mesaflash --device 7i80 --addr 192.168.1.121 --readhmid

Again, for a single 7I77, I would use the 7i77x4 config and connect the 7I77 to P2

Thanks again Andy,
could't find information on fielpower stuff :(
don't have a clue what is VIN ... :S
is there a place i can find info on this topics ?

to continue anyway...
is it just a matter of hooking a DC power supply like
ground negative to TB2 pin 8 and + DC ie 24V to TB2 pin 1

i can do that right away... im kinda exited ! :woohoo:

I assume you already have www.mesanet.com/pdf/parallel/7i77man.pdf ?

I think so. Just make absolutely sure that you have the wires round the right way. You can unambiguously identify PIN1 by the fact it has a square solder pad underneath.

yes I already have the manual...haha

I've just connected fieldpower and besides two new leds (steady lit on red and yellow), I don't see any other difference ...
ie still looking for some pin with ..7i77...

should I see them now ?
related to the readhmid, got it too

I, guess the board is still alive :)

5 yellow leds and 1 red, on
and no activity now on the pins i mentioned before

if i sent some pics will be helpful ?

some questions:

Which bit file?

To which 7I80DB connector is the 7I77 connected?

Did you verify the current 7I80DB pinout with mesaflash?

How is the 7I77 getting 5V power?

Great PCW !!

seems that don't having any 7i76 connected, generates some problem to the 7i80db_25_7i76x2_7i77x2D.bit

I've flashed
went back on to J2

and now I CAN SEE THE PINS !!! :woohoo:
AND CR15 blinking    green !

thanks !

btw I now have to figure out how to solve this i guess
have a these messages

hm2/hm2_7i80.0: Warning: sserial remote device 7i77 channel 0 has old firmware that should be updated

hm2/hm2_7i80.0: Warning: sserial remote device 7i77 channel 1 has old firmware that should be updated

sorry i missed to paste the bin I flashed
it is 7i80db_25_7i77x4.bit

and for the record
the 7i77 is getting its power from the 7i80DB via the db25 cable/patchcord jumpers accordingly

the readhmid cmd gives
....
General configuration information:

BoardName : MESA7I80

Instance Stride 1: 64
Register Stride 0: 256
Register Stride 1: 256
....
then the modules and then the pins

I couldn't see any info regaring version

also run
franco@knanolcnc:~$ mesaflash --device 7I80 --sserial

what is stride ? should I know ?

what do i do with the

You dont need to have a 7I76 connected to use a 7I76x2_7I77x2 config but the command line is a bit different (since the 7I77s are on the second sserial port)

For the moment, ignore it.

ok Andy i will ignore that for now :). tnks !

PCW: you mean the sserial_port_N= option in the hm2_pci modparam and that stuff ?

I read the linuxcnc.org/docs/html/man/man9/hostmot2.9.html
seems a matter of playing with modes and X. is that ?
if it's that the point I'll try to remember that because i foresee I'll need it in the future...
I could't get all the ide behind sserial - besides the proprietary thing and the 2.5Mhz, anyway
just to know..., is there any other source of info on this topic ? just curious ..

I'll try to dig now into the pins world, the encoders, drivers etc

But today.. You helped me out to make my day !
many many thanks !
