I'm using the Field IO Mpg configuration and pretty sure everything is configured right except I need to change from the default 100cpr scale.
Following the previous suggestion I need to change jumpers for single ended outputs.
Using encoder 05 pins 17,20,23.
There are three jumpers. Which jumper is the one I have to change?

W9 and W7 should be moved to the left hand position for single ended A,B encoder signals on encoder 5
The index (TB4 pin 23 and jumper W3) need not be connected/changed since index is not used for jogging.

Note that this is not a field I/O MPG connection but rather using a
normal servo feedback encoder input for a MPG.

(the field I/O MPG encoder inputs are on TB7 pins 16,17,18, and 19)

Hi,
PCW, can you clarify if it's okay to wire a 5v MPG to the pins 16 and 17 (channel A and channel B ) in software mode 3? I'm using 24v for the field IOs and I'm powering the MPG via the external 5V on TB1, jumper W5 to the R. Should I connect my grounds from TB1(5v) to TB2 (24v)?

TIA and Happy New Year!

Okay, that works. Out of curiosity, on TB2 field power connector on the 7i77, pin 8 being ground, are pin 6 and 7 by any chance also ground? Manual names them NC. What does the NC stand for? I assume not connected in this instance.

This is as good a spot as any becasue I've been trying to connect a MPG to my 7i76e today. I was actually referring to this topic earlier today.

I have got the MPG wired up to the board (after jumpering the Field Power GND (TB1.8) to the ground on the 5V step/dir side (TB3.23). I'm grabbing 5V power from one of the stepper interfaces and the Encoder is wired to Field Inputs 16 & 17.

That works perfectly and I can see hm2_7i76e.0.0.encoder.00.count increment up and down in the HAL Configuration window in Axis. But I can't for the life of me get it to jog the axis. Here is what I put in HAL.
setp axis.x.jog-vel-mode 0
net x-jog-scale <= 1
net x-jog-scale => axis.x.jog-scale
net x-enable  <= hm2_7i76e.0.7i76.0.0.input-10
net x-jog-count <=  hm2_7i76e.0.0.encoder.00.count
net x-jog-count => axis.x.jog-counts
net x-enable => axis.x.jog-enable

I suspect that the problem I have is the MPG is not enabled at axis.x.jog-enable
hm2_7i76e.0.7i76.0.0.input-10 is wired to a temporary switch and I can see it operate on the PC side.

But the signal is not even getting to x-enable

I have not got a switch for scales so I've left out allof the mux4 stuff for now. So what have I missed?

I checked with a multi meter and pins 6, 7 and 8 appear to share the same ground on the 7i77. I'd like PCW to confirm that that is indeed correct before I utilize those connections.

rodw,

That looks like the same MPG I got off Ebay :)
Sorry I can't help you with the HAL cofig. I'm just getting started on that as well.

Anyone know what value pot I should look into If I want to have a remote feed override on the pendant or control panel?
This would utilize mode 3 again and I assume the 4 analog inputs 0-3 on TB-8 ?
Should I run this off the 5v or use the field 24v?

A small encoder is likely to work better, as it can more easily cooperate with other controls.
(I mean something like the 16-click ones that are in the same format as a potentiometer that can be had for $2 on eBay)
