Upgrading 7i76 firmware

I upgraded my 5i25 firmware and now when LinuxCNC starts up it says to me "hm2/hm2_5i25.0: Warning: sserial remote device 7i76 channel 0 has old firmware that should be updated". Same warning on halrun.

I didn't even know 7i76 had a firmware, let alone how to upgrade it. Smart Serial Firmware version is 33.

Any pointers?

You must have upgraded linuxcnc, not your 5i25 firmware
(V33 is at least a couple years old and only the latest versions of linuxcnc complain about sserial remote firmware)

Upgrading the 7I76 firmware will take 2 steps because your 5i25 firmware is so old.

First, you will have to upgrade your 5i25 firmware, by downloading the 5i25.zip file
from mesa, and flashing 5i25 with the correct bitfile (followed by a power cycle)
This is done with the command:
sudo mesaflash --device 5i25 --write 5i25_7i76x2.bit

next, to upgrade your 7I76 firmware you download

www.mesanet.com/software/parallel/sserial.zip

Which has the firmware and scripts for updating sserial remote firmware

Unzip and read the README file for instructions

Thanks, I will give it a go.

It is interesting though, I've been running on 2.7 for more than a month and ~pre4 version of it at least a week, never saw the error. But today I did the 5i25 flashing (with FW from mesa) and then started to see the error.

Anyhow, I will do the upgrades and report back.

Well, it took a few tries before 7i76 accepted the upgrade (failed to load sserial module, for some reason), but finally it worked and now everything seems allright. Thanks a lot!
