Hello Forum Members
I want try to build up a machine for linear and radial weldings. I think, the LinuxCNC wil be a good choice for this project, but i have no idea, what hardware is needed.
i can buy new parts, but also i have a old machine here with some axis. (it is a Fehlman P100 ).
Has someone a layout of what parts are needed ( drivers, interfaces etc ) to build a 4-axes machines (x, y, z, rotate head).

Ok, i take a look in it. i found out we have a haidenhain tnc150, complete working, so i try to findout how to connect this to a LinuxCNC.

The TNC150 is a machine controller, so is Linuxcnc ( software based and running on a PC ).
You cannot connect them together.
If you have a working controller and the knowledge to connect it up and get it working, use that.
There is no evangelical mission here, do what ever is right for you.

so it means, i have to use a controller to connect the existing motor and meassuring system to the linuxcnc or can i use the existing controller of the heidenhain ?

No, it means you have to use extra interface boards to connect the existing motors and encoders etc to Linuxcnc.
The TNC150 should already have those interfaces built in to it, if you are adapting the actual machine it was controlling, that must be the easiest option.
But either way you need to either do a lot of reading or be prepared to hire an engineer to connect up whatever you come up with
In very simple terms, a CNC machine works thus:
1) A processing unit receives logic signals in to tell it about the state and position of the machine
It interprets a machine code file and outputs signals telling the machine how to move to cut the part the machine code describes.
2)The processing unit is connected to interface boards, which receive electrical signals from the likes of encoders, sensors etc and convert them into a logic signal the processor can understand.
The processing unit also connects to interface boards which take logic outputs and convert them into the electrical signals necessary to switch relays and turn on coolant, send signals to drive motors etc
3) The interface boards connect to motor controllers to move motors, a variable frequency drive controller say to spin the spindle etc
4) The motor controllers convert signals sent to them, to the actual electrical powering necessary to move the motors
Linuxcnc does 1) it needs interface boards to do 2)
The TNC150 does 1) and 2).
The biggest difference is that the TNC150 is set up to do one thing, with one particular set of hardware, that which it was connected to.
Changing this requires a lot of knowledge and specialist parts possibly.
Linuxcnc can control any hardware, just needs suitable interface boards to match the hardware.
It too requires knowledge, there is no quick and easy path, but you won't find a forum where Heidenhain service engineers give their knowledge for free
to anyone who asks the right questions!
