Looks like either the 7I84 lost power or the interface to the 7I84 (7I77,7I76, 7I74 etc) lost 5V power after startup
The other thing that can cause the same symptoms (total loss of communications with the serial remote device)
is a 5I25 watchdog bite due to a long latency spike (a huge one since the normal watchdog timeout is 10 ms)
the EDID errors _might_ be an issue so you might want to try another monitor

Thanks for the response PCW. I have had a few occasions where the computer didn't start on power up. Not sure if it's it's related. Probably better to use external 5v to power my 5i25, doughter boards and encoders in case the pc supply is not up to the task.
Ill have to check to see if the VGA1 is on board video or the graphics card. I hope the monitor is not the issue as it's built into a custom panel. I'd hate to replace that already. Come to think of it, a while back after re-booting on one of the occasions where the computer didn't start on the first try, the display changed to a higher resolution on it's own....

Is this a new setup, or some machine that was running fine and now is failing?
Does it happens when you are interfacing the PC or the machine running or in idle mode?

Machine is a work in progress, the computer is old surplus. It was working fine and may still be as I was not able to replicate the error.
The error occurred so far one time and it was during a spindle chuck test and warm up. I ran it maybe an hr. The axis screen was in the initial screen before hitting home button. My drives were powered off manually at the breaker. I was cycling a pneumatic chuck. via a foot pedal. Oddly if I think about it, I think the error triggerd during the pedal press. The pneumatic relay is on 24v so I don't think the 5v dropped.

watch out for debounce errors on your inputs , thats probably more the problem .
especialy sudden spikes on heavy duty relays , sharing the same psu etc . this sound more like suppression of spikes
and noise, than anything else , such as low voltage wiring crossing mains wires etc .
also check your 5v supply is good , sometimes they drop lower then 4.7 volts and that would cause the 5i25 to trigger
you may need a higher rated pc psu for example , is the favorite

Note that the 7I84 outputs REQUIRE a flyback diode for inductive loads of greater that 60 mA

I learned about the flyback diodes the hard way already. Thanks for the reminder but all that has been addressed after I blew a chip on the 7i84.
I will address the 5v supply and worry about it further if the problem returns.
