Mesa 5i25 + 7i76 setting up encoder was created by Clive S
I am not understanding how to setup the HAl file etc to connect an encoder on a lathe with mesa 7i76.
I have connected the encoder to TB3 psychical pins A = 7 and index = 13 I am taking the 5V for the encoder from pins 12, 15
In the HAL file attached I have set counter-mode to 1. On the psychical pins (A, 13) with a scope I see the index and A pulses.
Could you please look at my HAL, INI files to see what I need to add and where to put it.
Thanks Clive

a quick look , it looks fine , i presume this is for a spindle encoder ?
what has you stumped ?
if this is just using index & a single encoder style , rather than a quadrature type , then dont forget to switch the 3 headers for the encoder to TTL W4,5,6 on the 7i76 , to the left ( they are defaulted for quadrature ) .

Thanks for getting back to me. Andy has been helping me but has gone on holiday (forum.linuxcnc.org/forum/49-basic-config...ng-a-spindle-encoder)
This is an encoder I made up with a slotted wheel on the spindle one the lathe I did have it working OK when I had it connected to the PP but now I have put a 5i25+7i76 card in. The encoder has 3 sensors A, B index (but the B sensor is broke I am waiting for a new opto to come) hence setting the count to mode one.
I am not sure what to put what where in the HAL and INI files etc. PnCConf has bugs in V2.7.4 so I can't use that.
edit yes the header have been changed to single

if you upgrade to the latest from buildbot , you'll find pncconf is fixed
iv'e took a quick look and your connections look fine
iv'e added a snip from one of my files showing the connections , although they may be more than you need
if i understand your just moving form a working version to only using index & a then just adding the control = 1 should be all you need to do , and perhaps alter the scaling as the scale will drop from quadrature to single so divide by 4 for example

Do you want me to carry on here or at my other post? I am not confident enough to do the buildbot thing without detailed instructions.if you upgrade to the latest from buildbot , you'll find pncconf is fixed
