7I84 for axis encoders? was created by terkaa
Hi,
Can two MPG inputs of 7i84 be used for axis encoders? If not which one of remote serial cards is suitable for this?

I don't see why not, though the count-rate might not be fast enough (I think that they are 20kHz rather than the 10Mhz* of the normal encoders), and you can't do index-homing because the smart-serial encoders don't have an index input.
I don't think any smart-serial cards offer "proper" encoders, do you have any spare ports on the main FPGA card (5i25?)
*Or something in that order of magnitude
