Mesa RS422 max cable length? was created by terkaa
I am wiring user panel with 7i84 cards. My question: Is 7 meters(25 ft) CAT5 cable too long between Mesa 7I84 and 7I74 cards? Cable will route in energy chain along with other wires that may cause some noise(110Vac for ATC solenoids). Or is it better to keep 7i84's near 7i74 and wire panel buttons & light with 7 meter cables(about 50 wires)?

If the 7I84 cable is routed near switched 120VAC lines I would use shielded Cat5
Up to about 30 M is OK but the longer the parallel runs with noisy signals
the greater the chance of data errors

Should be fine
Cat5E and CAT6 have the advantage of using 24 gauge wire so have lower voltage drops than CAT5
