Help with 7i77 Fwd & Reverse Pulse Train was created by sticky
I am connecting a 7i77 to a Mitsubishi MR-J2-40A amplifier. My question is regarding connection CN1A below. I am trying to figure out where to connect pins 2, 3, 12 & 13 (for fwd / rev rotation pulse train) to the 7i77 card. I currently have:
5 to TB3 pin #7
6 to TB3 pin #1
7 to TB3 pin #4
9 to 24v +
10 to 24v -
11 to 24v +
15 to TB3 pin #8
16 to TB3 pin #2
17 to TB3 pin #5
20 to 24v -
I appreciate any help in advance!

Thanks, Todd! Good to know I am on the right track. Do you have any idea where I should connect pins 2, 3, 12 & 13 to the 7i77?
Technically speaking the only things I have connected right now are all outputs going from the servo amplifier and I do not have any pins going from the 7i77 sending commands to the servo amplifier. I think these 4 pins are the only thing holding me back from a little motion.

What exactly are you trying to do? Which Pins 2,3,12& ,13 are you refering to? The 7i77 is an analog servo control card. It doesn't have provisions for sending digital positioning signals.
For controlling this drive with the 7i77 you will want to configure the drive for using analog velocity commands (+/-10v), connect the encoder outputs of the drive (like above) and not use any of the digital pulstrain connections on the drive. You would use connections on CN1B, pins 1,2 to TB5 pins 3,4 (assuming LG is to be used for the control ground reference in an analog setup on the Mitsu drives). Then the Servo enable would connect pins 5&10 to TB5 pin 1&2 (be sure to check the polarity on these or you can ruin the digital output on the 7i77)

Todd,
Thank you so much! You have helped me more than you know! My last question. You mention using pins 5 & 10 to tb5 1 & 2 for servo on. I tried this but I my amp needs a full 24v to turn the servo on. Can I wire this somewhere else on the 7i77 to utilize the 24v necessary?

It looks like you need to ground the drives pin 5 to pin 10 to enable the drive
so for axis 0 7I77 TB5 pin 1 should got to drive pin 10 (SG)
and 7I77 TB5 pin 2 should go to drive pin 5 (SON)

Sure enough, this did the trick! One last question for today. I can't seem to get any encoder signal going to the 7i77. Is there a way to troubleshoot no encoder signal being received?

For differential signals the best way is to measure across the signal pair (from A to /A or B to /B ) and make sure you have
at least 2V and -2V depending on state (wiggle the motor shaft to check all the states)
Also look at the raw counts, if they only change by one count it usually means either A or B is missing

Okay, with my multimeter connected (positive to the wire that goes to TB3 pin 1 and negative to TB3 pin 2. It measures -3.9v. If I turn the handle I can see the voltage change within .1v.

Do you get +3.9V at some positions?
if you ever get any close to 0V across the A and /A or B and /B you have a wrong connection
