Yes it can be used without daughter boards.
Yes, it can run a machine that was set up for ordinary parallel ports.
Can it emulate, 2 parallel ports, sort of. It can't really do base-thread work like a parallel port, but you wouldn't want to any way. The whole point of switching to a Mesa FPGA card is to have it do that work internally (things like step generation and encoder counting).
