Best way to connect a +-10V input signal to a mesa card was created by emcPT
Hello,
In a machine I have a 7i77 and 2x7i84.
The main spindle drive can output +-10V that corresponds to the current torque that the drive is providing. The + range is for a forward direction and the - range is in the opposite direction.
It is not important to me to get the "direction of the torque", but I really want to be able to monitorize the actual torque.
Since the Mesa cards are not able to take a inverse signal (correct me if I am wrong), I would like to "electrically" make a module of the signal, like in math |signal|, before it arrives to analog input in the mesa card.
What would be the most accurate way to achieve this, if possible?
Thank you

Yes, you could use a absolute value OP-AMP circuit to turn the +-10V signal into a 0 to +10 signal
www.linear.com/solutions/1567
for example
or you could use a 7I87 that has 8 channels of +-10V analog input
