Advice for future rebuilds was created by tecno
Hi folks,
Have following rebuilds in front of me and would like to hear your opinions on what Mesa boards are needed.
Milling machine X/Y/Z/A all step/dir servos with encoders.
Spindle with VFD 0-10V with encoder (4 step mech gearbox = not implemented for feedback)
Renishaw TL probe and spindle probe. Home + limits +/- on X/Y/Z. Coolant pump, lubrication pump.
Alt. all above but Spindle to be AC servo step/dir with encoder
Is it possible to get above running with a 7i93 or do I need 7i80
Have following Mesa boards 7i90HD to be replaced with above
7i42
7i42TA
7i37T
Alternaitve for Lathe Would love to have PathPilot as my GUI
7i93? +Any of the boards above?
X/Z step/dir servos with encoders, Spindle VFD 0-10V encoder or AC Servo step/dir with encoder
Combined Home/Limit on X/Z. Coolant pump.
Future enhancement with 2 MPG
Any thoughts would be appreciated.
Cheers
Bengt

Are you committed to ethernet control? This sounds like a perfect fit for the 5i25/7i76, except for the encoders on the servos (which you could simply ignore for a step-dir system)

Using a POS PC today with Mach3+ Kflop/Kanalog so yes ETH is a must as there is no way to add 5i25.
Also I want encoder feedback.

Page 15 of the 7i93 manual specifically mentions a firmware that supports the 7i47S
store.mesanet.com/index.php?route=produc...=83_86&product_id=99
That offers 4 channels of step/dir with encoders and a spindle control analogue output. I am not clear if it has a 5th encoder for the spindle.

So what you are saying I could manage with one 7i93 + 7i47S + my 7i37T I already have, Spindle encoder maybe??

I think so. But would need to look at the exact pinout of that firmware to be sure.

Ah, here it is:
github.com/LinuxCNC/hostmot2-firmware/bl...SVST1_4_7I47S_72.vhd
Only 4 encoders.
I think that I have heard that the 7i37T inputs are too slow for you to add an encoder counter on that board, but I might be wrong.

No idea, I have never even tried to use it.

OK, hopefully PCW jumps in and clarifies that question
