Mesa advice please was created by Timmyag
I have a 1980’s 3 axis is Wadkin wood router that I’ve converted its running step and direction servos (400 step/mm). It mostly works ok, I get a few ghosts trips of the home switch, and it’s top speed is a bit low(1600mm/min vs 12000 the hardware is rated for) also spindle/vac table/extractor is manual control.
So I have decided to move up to a Mesa board, at the same time I would like to give myself the option of moving the pid loops to Linux cnc.
So I think I need 4 encoder inputs(6 *4 pins), 4 lots of step and direction output, and a small pile of general io that operates at higher v/amps that my lpt port at least 1x 10-0-10v output.
I’m looking at a
7i76e + 7i85s which seems to give me all I need and a spare 25 pin and 422 expansion option
Or
7i93 + 7i47s +7i73 also give me what I want, has more powerful io
I would like to know if there are any gotchas with what I’m trying to do, or if there are any better combos I have missed.
Thanks for the help.

Another possibility is
7I93 + 7I47S +7I84
This has the advantage of having 48 12/24V I/O points (16 output and 32 inputs)
A 7I73 gives you a lot of I/O but its really intended for pendent/control panel type use
(all low voltage I/O)
