actually, it is the frequency of the software step generation that limits it. Somewhere around 50K step pulses/second seems to be the practical limit. With hardware step generators, you can go to 300K or more.What is the maximum frequency of a parallel port?

Yeah, I figured a port on its own was pretty slow. I don't know what motor is being used with that omron amplifier, however I would guess it to be a minimum of 18bit and rated speed near 2-3 k rpm. which would move pretty slow without electronic gearing or a additional controller card.
