What is the secret card - 8C20 ? was created by Cornflakes
Hi !
What is the secret card - 8C20 ?
No description is on the Mesa site, not in stock.
"The 8I20/8C20 combination adds the features of analog input velocity and torque modes, step and direction mode, quadrature input mode, smart position control mode, and four isolated inputs and outputs."
8C20 is the only way to position control with 8I20 amp?
Thanks!

Peter will probably chime in but..
The 8c20 makes the dumb 8i20 amplifier into a smart amplifier.
the dumb amplifier doesn't take step/direction commands and doesn't know anything about the current motor position. It relies on a motion controller (linuxcnc for instance) to give it this info. Andy made a special component to help with this - probably just for that application (though he made it very general so can be used in all kinds of controller situation) - the bldc component.
By adding the card linuxcnc can just give the amplifier step and direction commands and the card will figure everything out to move the motor appropriately.

Peter will have to answer that.
Either he will see this and answer or you could try contacting him through Mesa.
