I'm not 100% confident in my knowledge of electronics, so I thought I'd run my math past the experts here.

I'm running a 7i76E with 24v field power, and I want to drive an air valve rated at 5.4 watts. If I'm correct, that should pull 225mA from a suitable output, like TB6 pin 17 -- and be safely under the 350mA limit. Is this correct?

Also, as I presently have this valve wired to a momentary contact manual switch, it needed a flyback diode. If I interpret the 7i76e manual correctly, the output should be flyback protected already. Is that the case in my application?

Any other recommendations for me?

Thanks,

225 mA is safe but you must have a flyback diode
across the solenoid (band to 7I76 output)

Thanks for the confirmation. I actually just stumbled across a thread where you mentioned a ~60mA threshold for a relay. I'm guessing the solenoid is a similar inductive load, so that makes sense.

I'm now beginning my second build based on another 7i76e. I can't say enough great things about your cards. Really fantastic products.
