Parallel port onboard vs card? was created by diodeut
Hello All,
Sorry if this has been asked I have been reading several notes and don't seem to see it.
So I have been running Linuxcnc for about 4 years with no issue until my computer decided to die. Long story short. The new MB has a parallel port where the old one did not. ( I was using a parallel card)
Is there any benefit to using the onboard port vs the card that I should be looking at? I got thinking about this when I was re-configuring the address for the card on the new MB.
Thanks in advance

Heres a couple of things
On-board port advantages:
No extra card to buy
EPP mode works
Known address
No driver issues
Plug in parallel port card advantages:
Easy to replace if damaged
PCI/PCIE cards have faster access time than on board (LPC bus) ports
