Hello,
i found several power connection for the mesa 7i76e card. One is 5V on Vin and 24V on TB1 Pin 5 and 8.
Second 24V over TB1 Vin Pin 2 and 3 plus Pin 4 and 8 on TB1 like you can see in picture. But i am confused what is the best way and how to set jumpers?
The easiest way is second one. I need only one power supply.
What could be the reason of many possibilities and what do you recommend?
Thanks, Christian

+24V --> TB3 pin 21,22 TB1 pin 1,(2,3,4)
24V Common --> TB3 pin 23,24 TB1 pin 8
(W1 left)

Will allow the complete 7I76E to run from a single 12 or 24VDC supply
with the proviso that the logic and field I/O sections share a common ground

Hello forum
i connect this way. Unfortunately i test my multi hand wheel today. I think i made a mistake and now the logic side is black. But if i connect 5V to logic side works everything fine and also all digital inputs working. So i hope there is only a fuse broken. Does anyone know what could be burned?
Thank you Christian

If you accidentally overvoltage the 5V logic side of the 7I76E it will likely damage the 5V regulator, you can bypass this as you learned by supplying an external 5V source.

I would check that the step/dir outputs work as the 74ACT buffers that drive these pins will get damaged by more than 6.5V

I look for the mistake and found out what happens. I have not soldered the hand wheel cables in the correct line and shorted between 5V logic and field side.
Never trust this 25 sub D socket. :dry:

This 5V on step side are okay i hope i can work again with the second power supply.

Ouch!
I don't think I would even try soldering a DB25 with my shaky hands nowadays

One thing to be careful with when using pluggable power connectors is not plugging them live since you do not know which pins will connect first...

7I76E TB3 @ PIN 21,22 = UNREG LOGIC PWR+ IN
7I76D TB3 @ PIN 21,22 = +5V

A 7I76 or 7I76D always needs 5V power
It's most convenient to use cable 5V power for 7I76 and 7I76D

5V power is completely unrelated to field power or VIN
