No idea when this thing came into existence but i need a couple of these guys. I don't even care if they're prototypes.

Any info? PCW?

Hi

I'm thinking about ordering RPI4 + Mesa 7c80 for retrofit a mini mill

Did you know if this is possible to output PWM for control spindle with DAC using regular output or step output ?

i know this board include a digital dedicated circuit but i like to know if i can use other output.

The 7C80 has a built-in isolated analog spindle control circuit
so no external interface hardware is needed, but if you require
a PWM output, a step/dir output or expansion connector
output could be used with the right firmware. In addition
if you dont need very fast response, you can use one of
the isolated outputs as a slow PWM source
(PWM limited to servo thread update rate )

For right firmware, i need to customize myself ? (source code available ?)

I ask this because i have also a mini lathe with machinekit and for this one i haven't enough free wire for dedicated spindle circuit like this board (really something like impossible to add new wire in a cleaner way for this lathe spindle)

But this is really a great include !!! i plan to use this built-in control for mini mill

The question is mostly because i think about sharing control panel for both machine (hobby use)

Thanks a lot for reply

For a spindle its usually better to use an isolated interface circuit and they tend to generat a lot of EMI. As I mentioned, you can use one of the 7C80s isolated outputs and a RC filter
to generate and variable analog voltage

I also will be adding some 7C80 firmware options to support common parallel port BOBs
(like the ubiquitous "5 AXIS MACH" BOB) The "5 AXIS MACH" BOB has a analog spindle output

Yes you are right i have a fully isolated DAC circuit in the spindle enclosure.

I only need a "good" PWM output so if i understand : the best is use step or dir output for unisolated spindle PWM.

Thanks, BR

I have added a support zip file for the 7C80 with 4 new bitfiles

7c80_5abobd.bit 7C80 + Ebay special "5 Axis BOB"

7c801p_5abobd.bit + Ebay special "5 Axis BOB" Stepgen 5 on 7C80 step pin replaced with PWM

7c80_7i85d.bit 7C80 + 7I85

7c80_7i89d.bit 7C80 + 7I89

Hi

I'm sorry but i'm new with mesa board so i need confirmation.

7c801p_5abobd.bit this one allow to use the onboard step/dir output 5 for allow to use PWM out from this pin.
This firmware is compatible with 5 axis mach bob but as an option and can be used without this bob if the additional pin is not used by config ?

Thanks for your work :

Yes, 7c801p_5abobd.bit replaces STEP5 with PWM1 (DIR5 is just GPIO)
The BOB is not required.
