7i29 availability and support. was created by snoozer77
Just wondering on availability of 2 x 7i29's anywhere? My initial thought was to use my original servo drives (on my mill retrofit) with mesa hardware (5i24, 7i49, 7i44, 7i73,7i84) with the option of going with 2 x 7i29 if my drives were no good. I have been having problems with the reliability of my original 1980's analog drives, so i thought no problems, i will get 2 x 7i29's.
Problem is I've been waiting around 4 - 5 months for them to get made. And also want to order other mesa stuff but dont want to pay twice for shipping to Australia.
I didnt mind waiting a few months, but im now wondering if i do eventually get these drives, will they be supported in the future. If i have a problem and need one in a hurry, what choises do i have.
Really happy with the mesa hardware im using on my mill and router. Just wondering if sourcing 7i29's in the future is going to be problem. I also understand these drives are for old brushed dc servo's, and demand is probably low.
Cheers
Matt

The 7I29s are at assembly currently but we have a pretty good sized backlog of other boards
now (1000s)

Any updates? Again, i know the 7i29 is not a popular board anymore, but when i made my enquiry in October last year, i was told 10 weeks. I thought it would be worth the wait. I emailed after the initial 10 weeks and was told another 8 weeks. I'm at 23 weeks since my first enquiry. I have had no email updates since the start of the year. I come on here most days to see whats happening with everyone's builds. After almost 6 months, i would love to get back to my own.

Yeah, they are still at the assembly house but we did just complete sending all the shorts which means they are up soon for final assembly

Do i keep waiting or buy from elsewhere? In over 6 months i have had no emails telling me why my initial enquiry time of 10 weeks was going to be delayed. Its hard to be pateient, and polite after waiting over 6 months. With next to zero feedback. Can anyone else tell me what they would do in my situation?

We are mostly caught up with our backlog, unfortunately the 7I29s are low volume and complex so cannot be a high priority when we are out of higher volume cards, but we should have them sometime this month. I will verify the actual delivery date and see if there's any possibility in shifting schedules to push them ahead.
Jon Elsons PWM Amps would be a good replacement.
