'error finishing read' with 7i80/7i90 combo was created by cmorley
I have a 7i80 ->7i44->7i90
->stmbl
using just HAL session (linuxcnc master), I can run the cards with seemingly no problem but, I get the error:
'hm2/hm2_7i80.0: error finishing read! iter=1365116'
if I set an output on the 7i90 with:
setp hm2_7i80.0.7i90.0.0.p3-out-23 true
Any idea what that could be - any other info you need?

First check the servo thread in the ini file, just in case.
What does that output activate ? Anything with induction like relay, motor, transformer, etc ?
In case any of the above, check the wiring for proper grounding, check cables for shielding, and so on.
Hope it helps.
Also if you have a DVM check the voltage for drops when activating that output.

Yeah, "error finishing read" usually means you have lost all contact with the
FPGA card (7I80 in this case) possibly caused by a complete power failure or
FPGA card reset.

Thank you - that lead me to the temporary power supply not having enough current for the optos to be turned on when setting outputs.

@pcw
Sir woudent it be Good to adress this in the Documentation of the MESA stuff
as so many try them out first and run in Issues / errors they woudt never see on Mashine side
with full power
as i did also face this with my 7i92 test

So to just finish this ...
I originally had 5 volt power to the 7i80 and 7i44 - i had missed the 7i90.
If I set an output on the 7i90 it would kill the sserial service.
Then I added 5volt power to the 7i90 and could set an output.
but i couldn't set two outputs....
Finally after setting the single output on the 7i90 then measuring the supply voltage on the 7i80 - it was down to ~4.20v (~4.9 without the output on)
I added a higher current supply to the 7i80 and that has seemed to fixed the problem.
I did seem counter-intuitive that the 7i90's outputs would effect the 7i80's supply voltage... considering there is a powered 7i44 between then.
